Now that it's 2021, so comes the year that I say goodbye to my 20s. In August, I will turn the big 3-0 and trust me when I say, I'm not looking forward to it. My 29th year on earth was not spent anywhere but in the house due to COVID 19. It's been a tough year for all of us.
30 seems like such a crazy number to me. I can't believe that I'm supposed to be a functioning adult, I'm just a giant kid at heart. My mom likes to remind me that when she was 30, she had two kids and had almost been married for 10 years. Oh how the times have changed.
To celebrate turning 30 this year, I decided to compile a list of all the goals I'd like to reach within my next 365 days. To hold myself accountable, I decided to list them here on my blog. Some will be career oriented, others will be personal goals, but I want to start my 30s out right and tackle all my goals.
Find financial independence and pay off all my credit cards
Read a chapter of a book every night
Attend at least one writing seminar every month
Fuel my body with good food by making better nutritious choices
Dance everyday for at least 5 minutes to get my endorphins going
Find one thing in everyday that is positive
Explore local historic sites more often and learn something new each visit
Pay it forward once a month by buying someone's lunch or paying for someone's coffee
Expose myself to other cultures by becoming better at trying new foods
Control my frustration and stress by finding healthy coping mechanisms
Create a better work/life balance by taking time for myself
Go out for a walk every day for at least 15 minutes
Teach myself to play my acoustic guitar and not give up when it gets hard
Donate at least $25 to the charities I care most about once a month
Explore my passion for military and maritime history further by learning new facts at my volunteer position
Work just as hard on creative personal projects as I do on work related projects
Cultivate kindness by being a better friend, sister, and daughter
Showcase my writing talents on the local level by teaching my own journalism seminar at the local library
Learn one new word everyday and apply it in everyday conversation
Focus on doing the best I can when it comes to work and remember that nobody expects more than the best I can do
Take a moment to think and breathe before I react to a situation that upsets me
Watch and take in what is always going on around me and be prepared for any situation
Light a candle and say a prayer of thanks every night before I go to sleep
Become more conscientious when it comes to my calendar and learn how to say no
Remind myself everyday that my writing talents should not be taken for granted and remember that I'm blessed to be able to work in the field I love
Find new little coffeeshops where I can take a break from the workday and just enjoy a hot chocolate or a latte for 15 minutes
Respect myself enough to stick by the boundaries I create to protect my inner peace and mental health
Research and make one new recipe every month and actually fall in love with cooking and baking
Randomly call someone I love just for the simple fact of wanting to tell them I love them and I miss them
Immerse myself in my passion for gymnastics and get back up, even when I fall
Being born in August, I am a Leo and this zodiac sign couldn't represent me better if I do say so myself. Leo the Lion comes in with a big roar and demands attention and respect. However, Leo is also a fierce lover but if you cross them, you better watch out. Leo's have a way of being organized and we better never find anything out of place. We're creative, driven, and will find a way to accomplish any goal that we set. We make good friends and we love to give more than to receive.
Now it's my turn to ask my blog readers for advice. What advice do you have to share with me about my 30s? Are there any goals I should try my hardest to reach? Is there something special that I should look forward to? If you are out of your 30s, what's something you wish someone would have told you? I want to make this the best decade of my life so far so any and all advice is appreciated.
As I embark on this new decade of my life, I can't wait to see what the future holds. Here's to you Leo the Lion. I hope I do you proud.
