The journey of my podcast started innocently enough. I was a bored college freshman who wasn't into partying on Friday nights. I was always laid up in my dorm room, just hanging out, enjoying quiet evenings while everyone else in the building was out partying. I was happy to have the peace and quiet but I was also quite lonely.
Born out of pure boredom, Paula Radio came to life in March 2010. My co-host Amy and I decided that we wanted to find a way to reunite the Paula Abdul fandom (the PAmily). I loved how we came up with a concept that was new and exciting. Both my co-host and I had no experience when it came to creating a podcast, but we did it anyway.
Our first few shows on Paula Radio were trial and error. I am always up for a challenge so I was committed to making our shows better each week. On Friday nights from 11:00 PM to 12:00 AM, my co-host and I stayed busy by coming up with fun trivia games and finding new topics to discuss.
I always wanted the opportunity to interview Paula on the show. It was a goal of mine from the start. She was the dream guest for both Amy and myself. I got the chance to see Paula shortly after the radio show had started and I was shocked to learn that she knew about the show and was willing to come on and be a part of it.
Amy and I, Las Vegas, November 2019
In March of 2016, that ultimate dream came true. We got the opportunity after many, many months to sit down and interview Paula. I can't describe to you what the moment was like for me to get the email from her staff that we'd finally locked in a date. It meant the absolute world to me. I remember the whole day being one of those days where the minutes pass by ever so slowly and time just stalls. I honestly waited all day long for the email that she wanted to cancel. That 30 minute interview was one of the biggest highlights of my entire life.
I never in my life predicted that I would be doing a podcast, but I guess that the small glimpse of podcasting during my freshman year of college had really turned my interest from teaching to writing. After transferring schools, I started my own radio show and got involved in as many communication clubs as I could.
We've gone through different hosts throughout the years but Amy and I have always found our way back to each other. We've also been blessed to bring Paula back on our show in September of 2016 for another interview. When she came on during the September show, she also brought one of her friends, her former manager, and one of her backup dancers. I've never laughed so much in my life!
Since that time in March 2016, All Access Abdul has officially relaunched again and we've been busy hosts with trying to cover as many different topics as possible. We broadcast every Sunday from 8:00-8:30 PM, EST.
