As Local As Local News Gets

While I aspire to one day become the next executive editor of the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune, I will never lose sight of the importance that my current job holds. As the executive editor of My Life Publications, I want to use this blog to stress the importance of local news coverage.

My Life Publications prides itself on local news coverage with a positive angle. There is something to be said about the importance of local news coverage in this day and age. Often times, if it's not a big enough story, nobody will cover it. What we do at My Life Publications is get to the super local level. People can read our papers and recognize their neighbors and friends.

Local coverage is so important. It transports you to the little league field down the street from your house, it takes you inside the walls of the local performing arts center, it introduces you to your local pizza shop owner. What I enjoy the most is that it allows us to turn everyday people and their passions into an actual news story.

Back when I released my memoir, I had the opportunity to share my story within our publications. I was hesitant at first, but as any self published author will tell you, you have to take your publicity where you can get it. Working for a news outlet, I thought spreading the word through our papers would be an easy way to share about my book. Many people reached out to me from my hometown about my book. It was special. Would that coverage have come from any other news publication? Probably not.

We always find eclectic stories that often go unnoticed. I've heard from countless story subjects after their articles come out. These people are grateful for us sharing their stories. Everyone has a desire to feel important and loved and everyone has a story to tell. We love to put our readers in the spotlight.

I can't wait to see how we continue to grow.

Signing off,
