Being in the creative field of journalism has offered me a ton of different opportunities. I'm grateful for every single one of those opportunities. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a favorite monthly column.
I've always loved interacting with famous people. The glitz and glam of Hollywood always appealed to me. I wanted to find a way for My Life Publications to talk to some of the local, home grown NJ talent that has called our publishing region home.
When I first broached the subject of adding NJ Starz to the list, I knew I needed to sell the idea to my publishers. My boss seemed interested enough so I started doing some research on people from our area. Many people immediately think New Jersey talent and go for the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Maybe one day, but for now, I wanted to stick with some more attainable people.
To get the column started, one of my writers wanted to put together a piece on a Broadway actress. I reached out to the PR department at the show and explained how we were starting this new column and we wanted to include one of their clients. We went back and forth a little bit but eventually the star was in.
It was a long road to get started, but it's become one of the best assets that sets My Life Publications apart from the rest.

When it comes to NJ Starz, I treasure the fact that we can talk to so many people who have gone on to bigger and better things. I love that my writers get the opportunity to talk to big names in sports, authors, TV journalists, and more. We also let people know about their neighbors.
The goal now with NJ Starz is to aim higher. With the people we've interviewed, I think that is a goal that can be reached. I would love to interview some of the biggest names to come out of New Jersey.
Here's to you NJ Starz, for standing out and being different.
Signing off,
