When I was eight, all I wanted were Barbies and a CD player of my own. When I was 13, I wanted makeup and gift cards. When I turned 18, I wanted a car and a vacation. When I was 29, I wanted experience.
For Christmas of 2020, I think we all can agree that the holiday spirit and decorations were much needed as the pandemic raged on. My Christmas tree shone brightly through the windows of my bedroom and the scent of pine candles burned into the air as I prepared for the holiday season.
If you know anything about me, I love giving gifts and often find myself sending people things that make me think of them throughout the year. You'll always get a card from me on your birthday, you'll get random notes from me throughout the year. I just have such a love of loving on people.
Christmastime is no exception. I go overboard trying to show my love and affection toward my friends, my co-workers, my employees, and my family. I have often been told that the gifts I find are so unique and different but they fit the individual perfectly. To me, there is no bigger complement.
When I woke up on Christmas morning, I was so excited to give my family the gifts I had picked out for them. My mom loved her new cocktail set, my brother loved his rock climbing gear, and my stepdad geeked out over his remote control battleship. However, I was truly surprised when my parents gifted me a year subscription to Masterclass.
Masterclass is such a unique website where I have the ability to take as many classes as I want on all different subjects. The fun catch? They are all taught by legends in whatever field they are in.
To this day, I schedule all different classes to take each week. I have since completed Gymnastics 101 with Simone Biles, Effective Communication with Robin Roberts, and I am busy now taking Investigative Journalism with Bob Woodward. I seriously enjoy watching their videos and learning from them.
While I may have taken just three of those classes thus far, I have quite a lengthy list of people I'd love to learn from on the site. I can't wait to make the time for Shonda Rhimes television writing class, Malcolm Gladwell's writing class, and Margaret Atwood's creative writing class.
It's funny because when I interview potential freelance writers for my job, I always tell them that I love talking with other writers. There is just something that other writers understand. Plus, you never know what kind of tricks of the trade they can pass along to you. My job may be all about writing, but listening is just as important.
The subject of writing is my passion and if you know anything about me, you know that my passions drive me and light a fire in me that I can't control. This Masterclass program has truly helped me to always stay a student in my field.
